Question: 2008 Ford Explorer Horsepower?
I just bought a new 2008 Ford Explorer with a 4.0L V6. What is the best and cheapest way to add 40 or so horsepower to it? I really do not want to get it supercharged for a few thousand...I do not have that money. I also want something safe that will not harm the engine.

Answer: I didn't get the v8 because my Dad bought it for me. I am not going to be picky of someone else decides to buy me a car. How is the v6 in the Explorer? is it decent? how is the pickup?

Question: 2008 Edge or 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer?
Ok, I trying to decide between them both. I test drove them both and I like them both, however the Edge has more power (265 hp) than the Explorer (210) - both have sunroof, but the Edge has the Vista roof which is incredible. This particular Edge has Nav system which doesn't matter with me, both have also the 6CD changer - which one would you choose?

Answer: lol...I should go with the Edge because someone thinks it's ugly.....O-K even though I disagree....the creme brulee w/tan interior, vista roof is awesome. Of course I'm into customization so I will be adding on exterior features to the one I get but uh - thanks for your reply-:)-:)

Question: What is the wholesale and or dealer price on a 2008 ford explorer sport trac 4 x 4 limited and 4 x 4 xlt v6?
both v 6 and v 8 quotes welcome

Answer: Click on http://www.nada.com and click on the consumer section. I don't know what the 2008 is, new probably, but click on whichever one it is, then it will ask for the vehicle information. Fill all of your information in as it askes for, then it will give you the prices! I would choose NADA because it's what most new/preowned dealerships use in determining their prices and how low their prices can go when negotiating. Most dealers will laugh at you when you mention the blue book value because it's not the source they use in their pricing information.

Question: Can you pull a 26 foot travel trailer with either a Dodge Dakota or a Ford Explorer?
We are thinking of purchasing a Travel Trailer, probably a 26ft. My husband has a 2000 Dodge Dakota truck and I just bought a 2008 Ford Explorer XLT. We would like to know if you can pull the trailer with either or both or should we buy a bigger truck. We cannot right now so hoping what we have will do.

What if we bought a HI LO, or a lite trailer? Maybe a 24 ft with only a kitchen, bathroom, sofa and queen bed? It's just my husband and I and maybe, just once in a while, one or 2 grandkids.

Answer: you will be able to pull the trailor with either vehicle you have. It is stopping that is the problem. and..depending on what you will be hauling, with a smaller vehicle you have to really watch the weight that you haul. DO NO exceed the ratings that are specified on your vehicle or the owners manuals. If it were me, i would not pull a trailor that size with those vehicles. It would be way to dangerous. You need a bigger truck with suspension made for hauling. If you still buy the trailor, use caution, please.

Thanks. If we get one, we may just get a small 19 foot. Or go ahead and get the bigger truck. But, I am opting for the smaller trailer, maybe a HI LO. Thanks.

Question: Ford Explorer, Lincoln MKX, Mercury Mariner...?
Mercury Mountaineer, and Ford Ranger. Is it me or are all these Ford vehicles seem to be selling really slow? I have literally seen about 4-5 2008 Ford Explorers when they first came out about 7 or 8 months ago, 5 Lincoln MKX's, 6-7 Mercury Mariners, 6-7 Mercury Mountaineers, and 10 Ford Rangers. Does anybody not see these vehicles a lot?

Well, sales may be rising in everywhere else, but where I live, I see almost everything a Toyota, Honda, Mazda, or anything Japanese and foreign.

Could you people please stop giving your opinions about American cars. Your opinion might be totally opposite of somebody else's opinion. Unless you have actual evidence, besides only yourself, then show me. Just please don't throw around your opinions on domestic and foreign cars.

I see Explorers everywhere. I see every Ford model that I didn't list everywhere. These seem like the only struggling ones from where I live.

Answer: I don't know if it's because I work in Dearborn, MI and live in Automation Alley, but I CONSTANTLY see the new Explorers, Mariners, and MKX's. Not too many Mountaineers, but still a considerable amount. The Ranger has been at the tail end of the pack, but that's partially because Ford is phasing out the Ranger.

jmb, as for quality/reliablity, for this year, according to the Global Product Reliablity Survey, Ford was second only to Honda in terms of vehicle reliablity, and the Mariner and MKX were at the top of Ford's list for vehicle reliablity.

I have heard from other people that they see a lot of those cars too, but I guess not here. Oh, and I meant Escape instead of Explorer. I see Explorers absolutely everywhere.

Question: 2007 Platinum Edition Ford Explorer?
Any of you who know about cars please answer! I just bought a 2007 Ford Explorer Platinum Edition. It is not the Eddie Bauer one. But it was upgraded (the dealer said) to the platinum edition and it added chrome trim, leather, wood grain. They sd it was about 12,000 for this upgrade. Does anyone know about teh Platinum upgrade? I paid 24,000 is this a good deal for a 2007. It was owned by a rental service for one year. So it was barely used.

Yes this was an added feature. It also included a nice paint job black that fades into dark grey. I don't know if this added to the 12,000 cost or not?

Answer: I can't find, and don't remember any info on a "Platinum" edition Explorer in 2007.
There's not one for 2008 on Ford's site.

I think that's probably a dealer-installed package, not a Ford package. I guarantee that it costs nowhere near 12k to install.
An Eddie Bauer or Limited doesn't even cost that much over an XLT.

Rental companies generally buy XLT's. They do not modify them. And I'll bet anything that the dealer's cost on this package probably isn't even 1200, much less 12000.

Question: 1996 Ford Explorer: Engine Mount or Bad Tranny ??
1996 Ford Explorer Sport.

The car shifts perfectly smooth 99% of the time.

The Transmission only slips early in the morning on a hard left turn.

And when it does slip it's only when doing a quick hard left turn in the morning...if I do a slow left turn in the morning, it does not slip at all.

I read it could be an engine mount causing the engine to move on those hard left turns.

...but it only happens early in the morning, and beside that it shifts smooth as silk.

Answer: i dont think your tranny is the problem. you might have a bad mount or also check your balljointsin the front .it might be something as simple as that to replace

Question: 1999 Ford Explorer engine noise, what could this be?
I've been told its many things, anything from Timing Chain issues, to lifters or valves needing adjusting.

All i can say is its hard to start first thing in the morning, it'll go real low in rpms and try to stallout. And my CEL is on with lean on banks 1 & 2 codes. Yeah, it does have 251K on the factory 4.0 V6 SOHC motor.

Thats beside the point, some ford engines have had rep to last past 300K+

Answer: Two very common problems with the 4.0 SOHC in the Explorer
The throttle body and intake gasket leak. Lean condition and the cold start makes me think of the intake gaskets leaking.

ADDED INFO . . . . .
I just got the video to work on youtube
Need to go by your local Ford dealer (if you don't know already) and see if recall 00M12 was ever done on your vehicle. This was the tensioner replacement done by Ford some years ago. There was a problem with them, but I am not 100% sure if they were on the '99 model (I done know they did in 2000).

Question: 94 Ford explorer - engine bogs out?
94 Ford explorer 4wd, 175000 miles - idles a little fast but smooth. When I try to accelerate the engine bogs out. Plugs are getting fouled (rich mixture?). I've replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, 02 sensor, ignition control module, fuel pressure regulator, catalytic converter, mass air flow sensor, throttle positioner sensor, EGR valve, idle air control sensor and now I'm at my wits end. There's also black moisture in the tailpipe. Could it be a vacuum leak problem, and if so, where are the potential areas I need to look at? Thanks!

Answer: I would check the fuel pressure. If that checks ok, get a cheap spark tester. A weak coil pack would do what you describe. A vacuum gauge on the engine would tell if you have a vacuum leak. Those were also bad about the brake booster leaking vacuum. You might try some needle nosed pliers to clamp off the line to the booster for a sec to see if any change to idle. Have you checked to see if any codes are stored in the computer? Even with no codes, a scan tool would let you see what's going computer wise if none of the above helps...it's called a pid monitor test, and basically displays the data the computer sees from the sensors. Won't help if you don't know what to look for, thus the dealer may be worth a shot as a last resort. Everyone cringes at the thought of the dealer, but if you add up what you have already spent not fixing it........and good luck!!!

Question: How many miles will a 94 Ford Explorer Engine last for?
I was checking out a 94 explorer for $600 but it already has just over 200,000 miles on it. Just wondering if anyone had an idea of how much longer it could last so i would know if its worth buying.

Answer: Like every other engine out there, it all depends on if it is looked after properly ( maintenance schedule is followed ) and if the engine is raced/abused, or not, if the vehicle was used to do a lot of towing and also if they vehicle was mainly city or highway driven.

Question: Would a 5.0L mustang engine fit in a 2002 ford explorer?
i want to do an engine swap a ford explorer the engine is from ford racing

* 1 year ago

Additional Details

the explorer has the 4.0L in it and i want to put the V8 in im buying the explorer from my parents in a while

Answer: It probably would fit, BUT it would require A LOT of fabrication and rewiring for the electronic controls etc. Plus, I don't think it would pass emissions requirements once all is said and done due to the fact that a 5.0L is not as efficient and clean running as a 4.6L.

Question: I have a 1996 ford explorer and the check engine light comes on and now some times rattles and idles high when
what does it mean when 1996 ford explorer check engine light comes on and rattles in front end and idles high when i first start the car?

Answer: The check engine light comes to warn you when one of the engine control computer sensors(e.g. throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, egr valve sensor,etc..) is sending a value to the control computer that is out of the sensor's normal range(either too high or too low voltage wise). If your vehicle is fuel injected, there is an idle speed control motor that has the job of increasing the engines idle speed upon initial startup. As the coolant temperature rises, the idle speed should slowly drop to a normal level(between 750 to 800 r.p.m.). The rattle could be coming from a lot of different components...I can not answer that part of your question without more specific information.
